NATIONAL TREASURES: GEMS OF CHINA'SCULTURAL RELICS
Page 132, LIBRARY JOURNAL, Feb. 1, 1999
Another
overall excellent resource on Chinese art from Lee & Lee, this
disc features 159 treasures--vases, bronze masks, paintings--from
35 Chinese museums. Enter the works through three venues: Exhibition
Space lets you view all pieces, enlarge them, and get background data
on each; Map of History offers access to 35 archaeological sites across
19 provinces; and you can choose objects in Time Scroll from prehistory
to the 18th century. There is room for improvement. however: this
reviewer would like the ability to rotate objects 360Á, an
option to print the text, and a list of all of the art objects included.
The major cavil is that the screen is dark and the icons are not completely
intuitive.
The Bottom Line: Despite some drawbacks in this version (lack of the desired features indicated above), this is recommended for libraries with extensive art collections and the interested home buyer.
